Sync is done in both directions: any file stored in your local PC folder is automatically uploaded to the cloud; any file put in the cloud folder (uploaded there by using other client apps) will be automatically copied to your local PC folder.
You can choose one or more local folders to be synced to your Digi Storage account. Unlike others providers (where usually only one synch can be configured), in Digi Storage you can configure several different syncs on the same PC.
Beside sync, Digi Storage has an unique feature: "Add Place". By adding a 'place', you can map a local PC folder or an external drive to your Digi Storage account, WITHOUT any actual files movement. The place will be displayed in Digi Storage like any other folder from your account but the file acces will be done via your PC. As no files are uploaded to Digi Storage, by adding you WILL not use additional storage from your account. It is an extremely useful feature for sharing files between users or for accessing those files from other devices. If you have, for example, a 3-4TB external hard drive full of personal audio/video files, you can share it with another users with just a few clicks
By using the Digi Storage web interface you can easily share files with one or more users. You can assign different rights for every user (read, write, share management). The shared folders will be displayed in their Digi Storage accounts. They can access the shared folders like any other Digi Storage folder.
For sharing with another existing account you need to select the folder , press "Share", "Add people" and then you can enter the remote username.
Your Digi Storage files can be easily shared with people without a Digi Storage account . You can also allow them the upload files directly to one of your cloud folders !
select a folder or a file and press "Share" -> "Send Link". A short url will be generated (password protected or not, according to your security settings) which can be sent by e-mail or from another app to the required recipients. They will only be able to download that file/folder. They can't have write, change or delete your files.
select a folder and press "Share" -> "Receive files". A short url will be generated. You can send this short url to your recipients. They will be able to upload files to that folders but they can't see your folder's content.
The password can be changed from your DIGI account or from the Digi Storage web interface ("Preferences" -> "Password"). You can also reset your password by using the 'Forgot Password' option from the login menu. The capacity can only be modified from your DIGI account.
Yes, existing Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive accounts can be connected to Digi Storage. We also had other integrations in the past (Copy, Amazon Cloud Drive, etc.) but these services have either been discontinued or no longer offer integration APIs.
For technical reasons, we can't add iCloud and Mega accounts.
Yes, if you do not have access to Google Play from your device, you can download the Digi Storage mobile app from the Huawei app store.
You can mount the Digi Storage account as a network drive via Webdav. By doing this, the Digi Storage account will be visible on your servers like any local folder and you can use it your favorite backup application, as if you were doing the backup in a local folder.
Another way to do it is to use the FTP protocol because almost all the backup apps can use FTP. If you're using Linux, you can mount your DS account as a local drive by using curlftps. If you are using Windows , we can do a similar thing by using 'Add network place'.
The files uploaded to your Digi Storage account are not copied to your PC unless you have a sync configured between your PC and your DS account.
You can use the WebDav protocol (for example, in Windows, you can use "Map Network Drive" or a dedicated WebDav client such as Cyberduck) or FTP ("Add Network Place" or a dedicated client such as Filezilla).
Digi Storage is using a state-of-the-art "object storage" hardware platform capable of scaling up to 100PB in a single cluster, where user's files are stored on multiple different drives. If one hard disk fails, the data is immediately available from the other copies without any manual intervention. Moreover, the hardware platform is capable of self-healing and it's automatically restoring the data from the faulty drives so that we always have multiple copies of the data.
Digi Storage offers 2 levels of encryption:
transport level – files transferred between the customer and Digi Storage are always encrypted by SSL
storage level – files is AES-256 encrypted with AES-256 on the storage media.
At the moment, each file (individual file size) uploaded to Digi Storage must not exceed 488GB. If you have files larger than 488GB, they must be broken into smaller pieces (you can use archiving apps for this).
The best protection is to have a file backup system for at least several days which allows you to restore data from a certain moment in the past (that is, you can choose to restore the backup from one of the days when you know that you did not have encrypted data).
For this reason, the sync app is not the best choice when dealing with ransomware attacks because it automatically synchronizes the latest version of the files on the PC, without having to know if the files were encrypted or not. In fact, sync is not a backup, it's just a productivity app because it allows to have your files available on multiple devices in the same time.
Our suggestion is to install a dedicated backup app that can save your selected files daily in Digi Storage. In this way you can have the backups saved in Digi Storage for several days and you can do an efficient restore even if your most recent file version was encrypted.
There are many free backup apps which can use Digi Storage via FTP or WebDAV : Duplicacy, SyncBackFree and so on.
For manual backups via FTP, we recommend to use Filezilla as a FTP client.
Any deleted Digi Storage file can be recovered from the "Deleted Files" section within 48 hours . After this interval, the file will be permanently deleted automatically .
If you deleted a file from your PC by mistake using sync then you can recover it from SyncTrash PC subfolder. Our sync app does not actually delete the files from your PC, it's only moving them to the SyncTrash subfolder to enable their subsequent recovery.
